I opened the Fall season’s DNO with two young female songwriters, home grown here at Godfrey’s, Brittany Ann and Rachel Marie. Unfortunately a small audience but that doesn’t diminish the quality of the evening.

We started out with Skip to My Lou and then opened it up to some songs, chatter and laughs about travels, college stuff, recording, etc. and it flowed really nicely. Both women credited their dads for being major influences in their musical development. That was a take-away thought for the evening.

Another unplanned moment occurred during the set. Here I am sitting between two talented songwriters and amazing voices, and it dawned on me that they should be talking to each other. So, I excused myself for the bathroom and left the stage. The ladies simply launched into girl talk that was wonderful. Playing gigs for clothes in the mall. They quite naturally struck up their friendship.

Again, I’m quite proud of this concept and would, of course, like to have folks come out to sample this event. We finished up with Bruce Cockburn’s Wonder Where the Lions Are with marvelous harmonies from both Rachel and Brittany Ann. The time flew by.

Tomorrow, back to Lehigh’s campus farmers’ market.
