I did my second Bethlehem Rec show tonight, a pre-movie night in the park, as part of the Bernie Fritz night celebration. The mayor was on hand, free hot dogs, all the camp counselors, kids and families and pounding dance music from the speakers. A beautifully done event on a bearable summer evening. I was glad to be asked.

Bernie Fritz’s family was on hand and his son-in-law came up afterwards and said that Bernie would have appreciated what I did tonight, and that was all that I needed to hear.

My set was tough, though, following a dance set of high volume Electric Slides, etc. led ably by a nice City Recreation man with a killer sound system. It was highly charged stuff, so bringing it back down to my chops was a hard sell. Kids were up early in the set, but some drifted off for the 50 minutes. Face it; it’s a playground, you know. But those that stuck it out included a few counselors, some moms and dads and kids, and some brave and in-tune kids.
